Rocket Science at LA Music Theater Festival

"Rocket Science" had 2 great readings at the Festival, thanks to the sponsorship of Marcia Seligsman and Michael Kerker. Great cast, fantastic direction by Richard Israel and MD Darryl Archibald pulled off a minor miracle, even arranging some songs along with teaching the band the score, um, in an afternoon.

We've worked hard on the show since the Playwrights Horizons readings and I think our rewrites really paid off. The story is much clearer, the show zips by and there a couple of exciting new numbers which seem to really work. Semi-staging the show, having the actors miked, and the intimate and warm theater it was in all worked in our favor. The Royal Treatment really paid off, and showed the piece to maximum advantage.

The response out there was really, really positive and upbeat. Penn State is next - where the students there will have one more take on the material for eight weeks, culminating in 2 more readings, where we can hone and refine things but honestly, we're almost there.

Now, would somebody please take a chance on our show and produce it? Please? :)

Stephen, it was so fabulous working on Rocket Science! Thanks for the wonderful music that we were able to perform. I still catch myself singing the songs days after our reading ended! Can't wait to see where this show goes next :) -- Chrissa
